It's hard to believe this scene can be found so close to Phoenix, Arizona. We had decided get up before the sun peeked over the mountains and go hiking around the Salt River in Tonto National Forest. This particular location was our second stop of the very early day. Having never been prior to this visit, I was shocked to see how much growth there was in January and how verdant it appeared. Now, having given you that to picture, I loved creating the moodiness you see here by going black and white. It highlights the details, the textures, the emotion of a tranquil forest setting. The twisted trees create an intriguing pattern, adding tremendous depth to the scene.
