The green anole raises its vivid pink dewlap above a weathered wooden fence. That flash of color makes this small wildlife encounter especially rewarding, inviting you to linger over its display. The photographer identifies the lizard as a green anole (Anolis carolinensis), photographed during a family walk in Florida, and recalls it bobbing its head and moving quickly along the fence. Here, its pointed head tilts upward as the bright, finely dotted fan opens beside its green body. Against the dark background, the pink pattern stands out, while the fence's worn grain gives the scene an earthy edge. You can follow the line of the fence back to the anole and savor the contrast between its delicate markings and vivid color. That brief, expressive pose leaves a sense of wildlife discovered close at hand.
