Black and White

Experience the tone, texture, and dimension of these images showcasing the power of a black and white / monochromatic image. The intensity of these images draw the viewer into the scene to where it's nearly impossible to not feel the depth of the moment.

During a recent trip to Florida, I had the amazing opportunity to meet up with some of friends who have the same passion for photography. There is nothing like hanging out with people who share a common love for something, who are willing to share wisdom and encouragement with each other, and who desire to see each of us thrive. Find your people, my friends. Prior to our meet-up, we had all heard so much about the pier that one of our group members photographs often and quite successfully. We all desired to capture that same image and then push our own limits to add a little of ourselves into the final products. I chose to go with a striking black and white composition of the Venice Pier stretching into the ocean. I loved how the strong perspective lines and shadows created a dramatic visual effect. Funny story ~ while trying to be "unique and creative," I decided I was "going in close" for a different perspective. It didn't look like the water would misbehave and impishly play tag with my feet ~ but boy was I wrong! No sooner did I get down to take the shot - no tripod, handheld, and camera bag not too far from me.....the funny little comedian decided to pull back and then push forward to blanket me in all her drenched beauty. This is where the "community" with whom I was enjoying this moment pulled together, grabbed my bag, and made sure okay. The offers for blankets, dry clothes, and any other help I may have needed "flooded" the moment (yes, pun intended) ~ but I was fine. It's part of the job, part of the memory. I'm sitting here smiling as I reminisce about it.

A striking black and white image taken from underneath the Venice Pier on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The leading lines draw your eyes into the center where the light illuminates the horizon.
