A beautiful September day had us out and about exploring the beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. On our extensive walk around town, we ventured upon a local garden where this magnificent cherry-red Dahlia 'Cornel' instantly caught my attention...and not for one reason, but several. Amidst a vast sea of summer blooms, a perfect stream of natural light seemed to hit this particular flower in just the right way, as if she were standing center stage under a theatrical spotlight with all eyes focused on her. Not only did the light draw my attention to the scene, but the deep velvety textures and mesmerizing geometric perfection of the ball dahlia isolated against a naturally dramatic and darker background captivated me.
