Long before we packed our suitcases, capturing the massive roar of Nugget Falls was at the absolute top of my photography bucket list. When our tour bus finally dropped us off at the Mendenhall Glacier recreation area, we were faced with a daunting restriction ~ a strict ninety-minute window to hike the trail, take it all in through our senses, capture our images, and race back to the bus before it left us behind. This waterfall was our absolute first priority. So, we hit the ground running, racing a mile down the path to reach the gravel bar, knowing that every single second counted. The moment we arrived, my heart almost stopped. The sheer immensity, the thunderous power, and the overwhelming enormity of this gorgeous waterfall completely overtook me. Before diving in up close and personal with the misty deluge, I chose to go wide to capture the breathtaking vastness of the entire scene. Tumbling nearly 380 feet, the waterfall dumps a massive torrent of glacial runoff directly onto the open valley floor. By cooling the tones, the dusty afternoon haze is wiped away ~ enveloping the canvas in a crisp, imposing Alaskan atmosphere. A layer of subtle mist drifting across the waterfalls base softens the river stones, capturing the true kinetic energy of the water as it actively carves the valley floor. It stands as a powerful testament to a bucket-list dream realized in a moment of pure, uninterrupted wonder. Design Recommendations: This sweeping, grand-scale horizontal landscape creates a commanding focal point that is tailored to bring a sense of high-end adventure, light, and vast natural proportion to a minimalist living room, a lodge mantelpiece, or an executive conference room.

A sweeping, wide-angle horizontal landscape photograph of Nugget Falls dropping 377 feet down a massive, dark granite mountain cliff in Juneau, Alaska. The broad white waterfall empties directly onto a vast, flat glacial gravel bar on the edge of Mendenhall Lake. The entire scene holds a crisp, cool, high-contrast atmosphere, with a soft, uniform blanket of fine spray diffusing the river stones at the base of the cascade.
