(The following can also be purchased as a black and white print) As a first time visitor, I could not have asked for a more glorious premiere of the majestic Grand Canyon. We arrived while the sun was still dreaming and the night sky was just beginning to fade. It was no surprise to me that the crowds had already started filling in the space called Mather Point, the closest viewing area to the South Rim Visitor Center of the national park, but I was still able to maneuver around and capture some fabulous images even before the sun made her debut for the day. This image just happens to be one of them. Before we knew it, our watches all struck 6:40 am and the morning star arrived with an audible applause from the crowds as she presented her first ray over the horizon. In time, her warm, golden light bathed the very cold canyon as shadows began to move themselves across the rugged landscape. The vastness and majesty of this scene left me awestruck. It's difficult for me to process that it took me this long to experience such a wonder...and now I can't wait to go back.

The image was taken at Mather Point at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The sun had not quite peeked her head over the horizon, but her preceding glow was beginning to cast light upon the canyon, creating a beautiful and colorful scene.
