Connecting with our furry, fluffy, and funny little friends out in their own habitat has to be one of the most rewarding opportunities for me as a photographer. To capture that image of them locking eyes with me, or even watching them play around in their own environment ~ these are moments that bring my soul joy.

What a find! During our walk around Sweetwater Wetlands in northern Florida, we noticed a small congregation of baby gators nestled under an observation dock. We think mama gator was just on the other side of the water hanging out, grabbing two minutes of peace and quiet from the kiddos, but we knew better than to think she wasn't close.
There had to have been about seven or eight baby alligators just hanging out there in what appeared to be a nest of dried grass, providing a natural and warm backdrop that highlighted their distinctive skin patterns. Some were lying on others, a few started a quick little scuffle that sent a few scurrying back closer to the water. They were quite entertaining and, surprisingly, very patient with those of us watching their every move. These two young gators were just lying there, minding their own business, giving me the perfect opportunity to capture the moment.
